Terms of use

Last updated 12 October 2026

The short version: Hangxiety Society is a free app for adults of legal drinking age to plan seshes and check in with their crew. It doesn't encourage drinking, it isn't an emergency service, and the tab is just notes between mates. Use it kindly, look after each other, and if something goes wrong, talk to us first. Nothing here takes away rights the law says you always have.

1. Who we are, and agreeing to these terms

Hangxiety Society is made by SPENCER AI (ABN 31 978 335 623), Victoria, Australia ("we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us about the Hangxiety Society app and this website (together, "Hangxiety Society"). By downloading, opening or using Hangxiety Society you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it, and delete the app.

2. You must be of legal drinking age

Hangxiety Society talks about nights out and drinking, so it's only for adults. You may use it only if you are 18 or older and at least the legal drinking age where you live. In the United States that means 21 or older. Where your local legal drinking age is higher than 18, that higher age applies to you. By using Hangxiety Society you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you don't, you must not use it, and please delete the app.

We don't check ID, so you're responsible for telling us the truth. If we learn that someone under the required age is using Hangxiety Society, we may stop them using it.

3. What Hangxiety Society is, and what it isn't

Hangxiety Society helps a small crew of friends plan a sesh, check that everyone got home, say how they're feeling the next day, piece the night together and keep a simple tab of who owes who.

Please drink responsibly, know your limits, plan how you'll get home, and never drive or ride after drinking. If you're worried about your drinking or someone else's, see our support page for free helplines.

4. Home safe, bumps and reminders are not an emergency service

Home safe, bumps, reminders and the safety net are simple check-ins between friends. They are not monitored by us or by anyone else, they don't contact emergency services, and they may not work: a phone can be flat, offline, on silent or have notifications turned off, and messages between phones can be delayed. Never rely on Hangxiety Society to keep anyone safe. If you're worried about someone, call them or go to them. In an emergency, call 000 in Australia, 111 in New Zealand, 911 in the United States, or 999 or 112 in the UK and Ireland.

5. The tab is just notes between mates

The tab lets people in a sesh note who owes who. No money moves through Hangxiety Society and we are not a payment, lending or record-keeping service. An IOU in the app is not a contract, a debt we're part of, or a reliable record for any legal, tax or financial purpose. Sorting out what's owed, and how it's paid, is between you and your friends.

6. Your crew and what you post

You choose who you link with, by code or QR, and who is in each sesh. Anything you post in a sesh (check-ins, gaps, funny moments, BOG votes, IOUs and messages) is shared with the other people in that sesh. You're responsible for what you post, and you agree not to:

You can remove or block anyone at any time. Blocking takes them out of your crew, ignores their updates on your phone and stops their code linking with you again. It can't take back what's already on their phone. Because seshes live on the phones of the people in them, we can't see or remove what's been shared. To report someone, email us. If someone is putting you at risk, contact the police.

7. Your information

Hangxiety Society keeps your information on your phone. Updates to your crew are locked on your phone before they're sent and pass through a postbox that can't read them. We don't keep a copy, so we can't back up or recover anything if your phone is lost or reset or the app is deleted. Our privacy policy explains this in full.

8. Using Hangxiety Society properly, and who owns it

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms, for your own non-commercial use. The app, its name, characters, artwork, logo and text are ours or used with permission. The things you write are yours, and you give the people in your sesh permission to see them in the app.

9. Changes and availability

Hangxiety Society is free. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. As far as the law allows, we provide it "as is" and "as available", without any promise that it will be accurate, available, error-free, secure or suitable for your purpose. We may update, change, pause or stop Hangxiety Society or any part of it, or stop you using it, as far as the law allows.

10. Your rights under consumer law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded, restricted or changed by agreement. If you live outside Australia, you may also have rights under your local consumer law that these terms can't take away. Every part of these terms applies only as far as the law allows.

11. Limits on our responsibility

As far as the law allows:

None of this limits your rights in section 10, or our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.

12. If you misuse Hangxiety Society

As far as the law allows, if you break section 2 or section 6, or use Hangxiety Society unlawfully, and that causes someone else to make a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable loss and costs your breach causes us. This doesn't apply to the extent that we caused or contributed to the loss.

13. If something goes wrong: talk to us first

  1. Tell us. Email welcome@myspencer.ai with what happened and what you'd like us to do.
  2. Try to fix it together. We'll both try in good faith to sort it out within 30 days of your email.
  3. Mediation. If it's still not sorted, either of us can ask for mediation with an independent mediator in Victoria (for example through the Resolution Institute), with each side paying its own costs and the mediator's fees shared equally.

We ask both sides to follow these steps before going to court. They don't stop you from contacting a consumer protection agency or ombudsman, complaining to a regulator, going to a small claims court or tribunal, or asking a court for urgent help at any time.

14. Apple and the App Store

These terms are the licence for the app. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where the two differ, these terms apply between you and us. If you got Hangxiety Society from Apple's App Store:

Questions, complaints or claims about the app go to us: SPENCER AI (ABN 31 978 335 623), Victoria, Australia, welcome@myspencer.ai.
